John Vicente was born in a small town in Central Portugal in 1956, immigrating to Winnipeg Canada in 1965, where he worked and lived until 2006, Now residing in White Rock BC. He started painting in 2016, under the tutelage of a local professional artist Chris MacClure, evolving into what he likes to call “Painting from Within”. This means that he enjoys painting subject matter that immediately says, “I can connect with you from deep inside”. Ideally looking for his paintings make someone instantly smile or ask “why” or “I need more”. Having resided around rural properties and horses for most of his adult life, John tends to gravitate to old prairie farm scenes and Ranch settings yet periodically strays off to more modern styles and colour palette. “I find the dramatic changes like a palate cleansing”. Starting over with a fresh mind on an architectural piece after doing several landscapes, or a European Street scene after a series of landscapes, but always looking to put a smile on the face of the observer. The ultimate goal to emotionally touch you deep within.
